Hello Partners,
On June 16th the work began at the new building of Faith Family Church (FFC), Hong Kong, 10th floor, Hung Fook Factory Building…
This is where we started…in a forty-year-old building that gave new definition to the word “filthy.”
The “future” church office in the middle pic (formerly the bathroom/shower facility for Chinese factory workers in the 70’s and 80’s)
Third pic - none of the toilets worked…because they were stuck shut with slime and rust…so we fixed them!
. .
Let the cleaning begin…
. .
The FFC members came out in force, some straight from work, or some took off work—just to help out!
. .
We prepared the walls for painting,
chipped old tiles and concrete,
removed huge steel flooring panels,
and Joab learned why they taught him in Bible school, that Ministry is spelled W-O-R-K!
. . .
The renovation began, and except for installing three air conditioners—the FFC members Did Everything! Steve and Dan (our American, full-time worker) worked long hours every day, using Steve’s 20 years of construction experience and Dan’s 10 years, to its fullest.
. . .
With the assistance of one of our FFC members with interior decorating experience, Sharmin planned and pondered the difficult color selections,
and Naiah, standing on the bamboo scaffolding outside the 10th floor window, inspects the exterior wall repair.
. .
The Faith to the Nations Summer Youth Team arrived a few days later ready to do children’s ministry…
Yes, this wall is for the children’s room—now stuff it with insulation! (pic 1)
The kids need a new toilet—so install one right here! (pic 2)
Level the floor—near the children’s room! (pic 3)
Sweep up the mess—For The Children!!! (pic 4)
. . .
What’s it like getting materials for a job In the Hong Kong???
Just imagine a store 100 times smaller than a Home Depot, staff it with cantankerous older Chinese-speaking men, a very limited selection and stock, and everything you buy you have to hand-carry back to the church!!! (although this guy wasn’t too bad after he got to know us)
The other interesting part of the job was teaching our church members how to do all the tasks that needed to be done.
None of the church members, before coming to FFC, had ever…
cleaned a toilet, a floor, or a window…
mixed or worked with concrete…
put in a screw with a screw gun… (a screwdriver was a new tool to many of them!!!)
painted a wall or used a paint roller. (no wonder the Great Wall took a thousand years to finish)
. . .
….except for this guy (below). He is member of our church who works for a construction company here in Hong Kong.
And these girls, hardworking Filipinos who have joined our church… (pic 3)
. .
And then came the painting…and painting…and painting…
. . .
And repainting…and repainting…and repainting…
. . .
Everyone’s favorite part of the day was enjoying the food provided by FFC to all the workers.
. .
In order to save as much money as possible we immediately started meeting in our new church facility.
Our first Bible Study…(pic 2)
.
And our first FFC Sunday Service…
We just wanted to give you an update as to the progress. The ministry has not stopped (but our communication has been a bit slower.) Still, in the middle of the church construction we went into China and did our annual underground Summer Youth Camp with our FTTN Summer Youth team, where over a hundred children and parents were ministered to.
In a few weeks we should have our church café flooring and carpet down—then things will really start to happen! Hong Kong will never be the same—FOR JESUS!!!
We cannot thank you enough, those of who have supported us and especially sown into the new church facility of Faith Family Church in HK!!! Greater things are yet to come!!!
We love you all and thank God for you,
From all of us at Fischer Family Ministries
Hong Kong, China
