Hello Partners,
In the last update, we shared about a ministry event we’ve been preparing, for over a year!
A week-long, English Children’s Camp for a Chinese Christian School!
Teaching is one thing—but teaching to a restless group of children from another culture who speak a different language—in the CCP—and wanting to make a life-changing impact…well, you’ve got your hands full!
The campers are seated and ready...Let’s Go!!!
Steve lit up the evening with a thrilling interactive message that drew everyone to the edge of their seats.
At first the campers were a little guarded and maybe even a little fearful of the over 6 foot tall white giant! But Steve won their confidence with a flood of irresistible questions and humor. The clincher was, acting out the Bible story of “The Children coming to Jesus” using the campers and even some of their parents.
Session after session, day after day, the team taught and interacted.
Sharmin taught, Joab taught, Naiah taught, our assistant Jessica taught…
During the day Steve and Sharmin taught the parents…
Meanwhile the team ministered to their children with teaching and team skits.
Daniel and the Lion’s Den...and the angel closes the lions mouths…
The team said they never laughed so hard…This is the story of Jonah and the whale (Jonah is on the left and God is wearing the sunglasses…in case you were wondering…)
And of course, what would summer camp be without some wild and competitive team games!
Joab and Jessica were the camp coordinators and divided the campers into four different colored teams while the parents—never having seen their children participate is such a camp, watched attentively.
Give kids of any culture a game to play and some grass to run on, and smiles abound…
The highlight was the water balloon toss that turned into a water balloon fight!!!!
And after an afternoon of exertion what could be better than Chinese camp food!
Every night the FFM band headed up by Naiah, cut loose with rockin’ upbeat music, captivating everyone in praise!
Everyone responded with enthusiasm!
From the youngest to the oldest …
And by the end of the camp, the children were worshipping on their own with great sincerity!
Every service ended with prayer…the team prayed for the children…
Steve and Sharmin prayed for the parents; and with the help of the parents, also prayed for the teachers…
On the last day, the children wrote letters to God, and if they couldn’t write they drew a picture of how they felt.
We gave all the campers gifts and some “fun animal friends.”
Why go to all the trouble and expense to put on a weeklong camp in the heat of southern China?
Here are the best reasons in the world…
