Xian Trip

Back

In recent weeks we’ve traveled thousands of miles by train though central China delivering more Study Bibles, teaching books, stuffed animals, money and encouragement to our Chinese brothers and sisters and Western Missionaries.  Joab and Naiah traveled with a group for the first time to Xian.  Xian is a large city in central China which used to be the Capitol of China under earlier Emperors located on the “Silk Road”, a major trading route to the East used in earlier centuries.  Thus, it is a city of influence and history.

The boys and our Western Missionary friends in Xian.  These young ladies live here and help distribute the books and gifts we bring in to the Chinese Christians.

There are always three things visible in nearly every Chinese city: the emerging “middle class”; the ominous presence of military soldiers or police; and the poor, living in abject poverty.

The People you meet on the road to Xian

Less than a week later, Steve and Joab took over 200 pounds of supplies to our contacts in Shanghai, Chengdu and Mianyang, including several hundred books in Chinese by Kenneth E. Hagin given to us by one of our supporting churches in the USA.  One of our contacts is distributing these books directly to aboveground, registered churches that we have also been teaching in.  The books have been readily received by all and some Chinese have already told us how easy to understand they are.  We have requests for thousands more in both Hong Kong and China.

On one leg of the trip, we “bunked” with the two Chinese in the picture on the left (they slept in the bunks above us).  Joab conversed with them and found out that the man on the left was a clothing fashion designer (and had the personality to match) and the other guy we think was his assistant (heh heh).  In the picture on the right is the “Yummy” train food you can buy at some stops.

This is the scenery approaching Chengdu.  The yellow flowers, which were in spectacular bloom, are used to make some kind of cooking oil.

These are our friends in Chengdu.  Some of these missionaries are working with unreached people groups that live in the Himalayan mountain range as Chengdu is the doorway to the Himalayans and the Tibetan region.  They told us over every mountain ridge is another people group that basically lives in their own little world—still isolated from much of civilization.  In many valley regions, not a single person has ever heard the name “Jesus”.  Many have no written language, further complicating the process of evangelizing.

While here we met with a Chinese underground leader and gave him some teaching books called “The Shepherd’s Staff”.  He said he hadn’t seen these in years and he was very grateful for them.  I asked him if he could get them there and he said “No”.  I then asked him if he would like more and he asked how many could we bring in.  I replied, “How many do you want?”  He replied, “10,000…to start.”  He said he could have those distributed in less than a month and then take even more.  Then he listed some other books he would like in the same quantities.

We—on behalf of you—our partners, bought the meal for all the missionaries below (In this picture they just found out Joab snuck away and paid for the whole meal before they could ask for the check).  They were very grateful and additionally thankful when we told them our partners also pray for all the laborers we come in contact with and work with.

This is a wholesale market in Chengdu.  People traveled here from all over China to buy goods here.  In the picture on the right is one wall of many that was filled with small stuffed animals.

This little baby bunny, in a cage barely larger than him, was on sale for only 1 dollar…he was certainly hard to pass up!
Chengdu is also home to the world-renown and one-and-only Panda Bear Research and Breeding Center.

These are our friends in Mianyang.  Their nine-month old daughter was most interested in the stuffed animal
part of our delivery.

This is an interesting city just a few hours north of Chengdu.  It is the government’s center for “Information Control”—yes, almost everything that goes in and out of China, TV broadcasting, Radio, Websites, Emails, Phone Calls are all routed through here where tens of thousands of people listen to and sort through all the various forms of communication and determine whether they are “appropriate” for the people of China to hear and see.

Until the year 2000, Westerners were not even allowed to live in this 1.5 million-people city, but now a few are living here and beginning to evangelize and start house churches.  Mianyang was also voted the third cleanest city in China and it really was noticeably clean and nice.

We have trips planned later this year to visit all these contacts again and bring them more materials.  We will be doing it with many of our partners from churches in OK, GA, NC and FL to name a few.  We also have a hundred Teen Mania youth coming out this summer that we will take into China, and do outreaches with for the churches right here in Hong Kong.

If any of you Pastors are interested in sending a group of people out to do a life-changing highly effective ministry trip, deliver materials to the Chinese Christians and travel across China, please let us know.  We are booked solid for 2006 but are now planning trips for 2007.

We’re so grateful for you, our partners, enabling us to reach so far in to China and have tremendous effect on many people’s lives!  We could not do it without you and are honored to represent you and be an outreach of you!!!
